Man from Greene gets life for murder

Michael McNaughton gets life in prison for murdering Romeo Parent.

AUBURN, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A man convicted of murdering another man back in 2013 was sentenced to life in prison today.

Romeo Parent was a 20 year-old from Lewiston.  He was beaten, stabbed and strangled by Michael McNaughton after Parent told police about a friend's involvement in a burglary.

The judge stated McNaughton "deliberately killed" Parent and shows very little remorse for it. She also included that she felt McNaughton would be a danger to the public.

The mother of the victim gave a tearful statement in court.

"Romeo was gone, he was murdered. In the days that followed I would hear everything that happened to my boy. How he was beaten, and stabbed with a screw driver and strangled six times before he took his last breath. Michael took my son's last breath, said Rita Hamel.
McNaughton's accomplice in the murder, William True was sentenced to 25 years in prison and a third man who drove them to the scene received 10 years in prison.
