MORNING STUMPER for Friday, September 9, 2016

PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Fifty years ago, the saga of those who would boldly go where no one has gone before debuted on TV.

September 9th was the actual 50th anniversary of the original voyages of the Starship Enterprise.

Now we can't imagine the original Star Trek without Captain Kirk, Mister Spock and Doctor McCoy, but there was a different captain in the original show's pilot episode.

For today's stumper:

And the answer is:

B. Christopher Pike

The original pilot episode, "The Cage" was never aired in its entirety, but it was eventually used as the plot of a two-part episode called "The Menagerie."

The character of Captain Pike appeared again in J.J. Abrams's reboot of the series and was Kirk's superior officer and mentor.
