New Balance may get a boost

Potential provision would help Maine made sneaker company.

NORRIDGEWOCK, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A new measure could give a boost to a Maine manufacturer.

The final version of the National Defense Authorization Act, which is expected to be enacted soon in the U.S. House and Senate, includes a provision that would require the Department of Defense to provide military recruits with American-made shoes.

Senators Susan Collins and Angus King along with Congressman Bruce Poliquin have been pushing for the requirement, which is expected to benefit New Balance.

The company has three factories in Maine that employ around 900 people.

New Balance produces the only fully American-made sneaker.
