New Gloucester home burns to total loss

NEW GLOUCESTER, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- New Gloucester Fire & Rescue said a home is a total loss after a Wednesday morning fire.

Crews arrived around 3:30 a.m. to 52 Maple Street. The first unit found the fire to be fully involved with all of the residents out of the building. Crews had the fire under control within an hour. Firefighters removed personal items and building materials to completely extinguish the fire.

A family of two adults and three children lived in the house and all escaped without injury. Poland, Gray and Durham Fire Departments assisted at the scene and with station coverage. Crews used about 5,000 gallons of water to help extinguish the flames.

A K1 monitor heater reportedly started the fire. The fire department contacted the Red Cross to assist the family.
