HAMPDEN, MAINE (NEWS CENTER) - The Hampden Historical Society is set to modernize a relic of Hampden's historic past.
Tuesday morning officials with the Hampden Historical Society announced plans to undergo much needed renovations to the Martin Kinsley House off of Main Road.
Officials say they need to raise $500,000 that would go toward addressing several areas of concern:
- A two story, climate-controlled and fireproof archival wing.
- Storage area expansion
- Siding and insulation
- A new ADA compliant bathroom
- Repairs to the foundation, front sills, and front entrance.
- A new heating system.
- Other architectural needs.
The Society says it needs to have the entire $500,000 before renovations can begin. At this point it still needs to raise $243,000
The Kinsley House, built in 1794 is one of the oldest buildings in Hampden.
It was placed on the National Register of Historic Sites by the Department of the Interior in 1983.
