Paving equipment struck in fatal crash

DIXVILLE, N.H. (NEWS CENTER) -- A car crash in an idle construction zone on Route 26 in Dixville, N.H. resulted in the death of the driver.

Emergency crews pronounced 60-year-old George Heald from Colebrook, N.H. dead at the scene upon responding to the crash shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Friday.

Police said Heald was driving westbound in a 2001 Toyota Celica when he veered off the right side of the road. After striking traffic cones and a guard rail, police said the car careened to the left, hit an embankment and went airborne. The car then struck a piece of paving equipment that was parked off the shoulder of the road before finally coming to rest.

Police said neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors in the crash.
