Police investigate Berwick Academy teacher

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A teacher at Berwick Academy is under a criminal investigation for allegedly taking inappropriate photos on campus of female students without their knowledge.

Brian Sanborn was fired from the academy this week after a school investigation into the claims. Sanborn taught chemistry at the academy and was also the girls' basketball coach.

School officials contacted the South Berwick Police Department on Monday about the possibility of inappropriate conduct.

Police executed a search warrant Thursday of Sanborn's home. They seized computers, cameras, iPads and mini tablets and turned them over to another agency for a detailed forensic investigation.

Criminal charges are expected to be filed within one week, depending on the extent of the teacher's alleged actions.

Berwick Academy officials are cooperating with police and administrators have notified parents.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the South Berwick Police Department at 207-384-2254.
