BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) – Police responded to a “suspicious” package in downtown Bangor Wednesday night.
Bangor Police, State Police and Penobscot County Sheriff's Department were all on the scene for a thermos that was placed outside the Hammond Street Post Office.
The area was blocked off and traffic was diverted for about a half hour.
Police say a sheriff's deputy saw a man putting the thermos down on the sidewalk. When the deputy approached him, the man ran away.
A bomb-sniffing dog was brought in as police swept the scene.
The member of the bomb squad did not find anything inside the thermos.
Police on scene said they were acting out of an abundance of caution following recent events in New York and New Jersey.
