Portland man arrested for selling prescription marijuana

PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A Portland man was arrested on Tuesday for selling his prescription marijuana.

48-year-old Danny Mitchell was arrested for Class D Unlawful Trafficking of Marijuana. Agents from the Cumberland District Task Force observed Mitchell exit the Wellness Connection of Maine, a licensed medical marijuana dispensary, and meet with another man in a nearby parking lot.

He was observed exchanging his medical marijuana for money. Mitchell then returned to the dispensary, where he purchased more medical marijuana. He had a valid prescription for the purchase.

Officers stopped Mitchell on State Street, where he attempted to conceal his identity. Mitchell was transported to the Cumberland County Jail by officers of the Portland Police Department, and his bail is set at $5,000 dollars.

The man who purchased the marijuana was from Massachusetts. He stopped at the Wellness Connection of Maine, but was told he didn't have a valid prescription, so he agreed to purchase the drugs off of Mitchell.

One gram of medical marijuana was seized from the man and he was released.
