Portland's 41st Old Port Fest to be biggest yet

PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The 41st annual Old Port Festival will be the biggest yet, expanding to a three-day event with musical acts, circus performers, and family-friendly activities.

The festival begins Friday, June 6 with the First Friday Art Walk.

Performances by the Circus Conservatory of America are scheduled for Friday and Saturday in Monument Square.

There will be a downtown scavenger hunt and working waterfront tour on Saturday.

Sunday will resemble the more "traditional" Old Port Fest, with street vendors and musical performances on six stages.

Organizers said the festival has expanded to three days because the one-day event became too large, and some people started avoiding the area because of the crowds.

Steve Hewins, Executive Director of Portland's Downtown District, said he hopes this will spread out attendance, and ultimately allow for more people to take part.

Typically, the event draws between 30-40 thousand, said Hewins.
