State Police conclusions from Sept. accident in Durham

DURHAM, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The incident involved pickup truck with three occupants, traveling east on Runaround Pond Rd. When the commercial vehicle approached an intersection between Hallowell Rd./Route 9 + Rabbit Rd. the driver, Brandon Harthorne, 24, of Cornish, failed to heed a stop sign.

The pickup truck struck a dump truck being driven by Clifton Larrabee, 42, of Durham, that was traveling south on Hallowell Rd. Larrabee was transferred to Maine Medical Center with serious injuries.

The pickup driver Harthorne, and the passenger in the right rear seat, Malakai Cawood, 21, of Limington, were both ejected from same sides of the pickup truck that they had been sitting in. Harthorne to the left, Cawood, to the right. Their deaths from injuries are considered to have been instant.

The front passenger, Jeremy Reardon, 35, of Limington, sustained significant injuries and was LifeFlight transported to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

No other operating factors besides human error on behalf of pickup truck driver have been identified.
