(NEWS CENTER) -- The state medical examiner's office has determined that 19-year-old Dylan Lyford died of serious bleeding from a skull fracture.

The medical examiner's office said Lyford's cause of death was subdermal hematoma, cerebral contusions, and cerebral edema due to a skull fracture. Old Town Police Chief Don O'Halloran confirmed Lyford fell down the stairs in the building. And although the medical examiner's office is awaiting results from a toxicology test, O'Halloran said they've confirmed through interviews that Lyford had been drinking.

Officials said Lyford had been at a party in at 69 Stillwater Avenue, Apartment 4 in Old Town Saturday night. When the people who live there woke up Sunday morning, officials said they found Lyford unconscious and called 911.

Emergency crews took Lyford to Eastern Maine Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Lyford was a freshman at the University of Maine and his family lived in Milo.

Lyford's friends have set up a scholarship fund in his memory. Donations can be sent to: Dylan G. Lyford Memorial Scholarship Fund C/O Penquis Valley 37 W. Main St. Milo, ME 04463
