WARREN (NEWS CENTER) -- Well known trial attorney F. Lee Bailey visited the Maine State Prison Wednesday.

He was there to see the prison's jobs program. But he also made time for a one hour visit with convicted murderer Dennis Dechaine.

Dechaine, who was a farmer in Bowdoinham, is serving a life sentence for the 1988 murder of twelve year old Sarah Cherry. He has maintained his innocence all alone and has a group of outspoken supporters in Maine.

F. Lee Bailey, who has business interests here, says he became interested in the case after hearing about it from another lawyer.

Bailey declined to comment on Wednesday's meeting. But Dechaine's attorney, Steven Peterson, says they talked about the evidence in the case, especially the DNA evidence which Peterson says is the basis for their request for a new trial.
