MILLINOCKET (NEWS CENTER) -- People who are looking for a way to go green on their vacation will have a new option this Summer. New England Outdoor Center is expanding it's Twin Pines Camps resort in Millinocket.

The $2.4 million project includes nine more guest houses on Millinocket Lake. Those houses are being built using green building standards. Some of the energy-efficient aspects include structural insulated wall panels and thermal radiant heating. Air quality is also a priority. The company used finishes and glues that have little or no harmful chemicals. New England Outdoor Center President Matt Polstein said despite the recession, he expects to be able to book the additional guest houses.

"We've had, historically a tremendous demand for Twin Pine Camps, far beyond our capacity," Polstein told NEWS CENTER. "So we feel that we're going to be able to fill these units up."

New England Outdoor Center owns fourteen hundred more acres of undeveloped land on Millinocket Lake. Future plans for that land include an eighty room hotel and an agriculturally-themed village.
