PORTLAND (NEWS CENTER) -- Heroes and heroines of all ages swooped into Portland for the first Maine Comics Festival.

Comic book artists and writers from all over New England displayed their works for hundreds of fans at the Ocean Gateway Terminal. Some of the artists even reached into their utility belts for pencils and markers to whip up a few sketches for visitors.

Rick Lowell, the owner of Casablanca Comics, organized the event. He said many people don't know about the talent just in the New England area.

Some of the featured guests also held workshops for budding artists.
