Businesses Recognized For International Trade

ORONO (NEWS CENTER) -- Maine businesses were recognized for doing businesses around the world Thursday. The University of Maine hosted International Trade Day.

Governor Baldacci was on hand to join the Maine International Trade Center in honoring businesses and people who have helped put Maine on the map in the international trade arena.

Among the recipients was Lee Academy, for its large number of international students and its two new schools in China and Korea.

New Brunswick-based Cooke Aquaculture also received an award for reopening a salmon processing plant in Machiasport and employing more than 200 Mainers.

Governor Baldacci said it's important to recognize how these companies are contributing to maine's economy. "We've got over one hundred thousand jobs that are dedicated to businesses being able to export so it's a huge opportunity to recognize them and get the word out about the importance of this" Baldacci told NEWS CENTER.

Four businesses and two individuals received awards at the reception.
