LAGRANGE (NEWS CENTER)--Fire investigators say a pair of house fires in Lagrange this week are both cases of arson.

Both houses were vacant, and owned by the same man.

The first fire was at a home at 109 Mill Street. Firefighters got the call at 11:30 Monday evening.

Investigators turned the house back over to owner, John Drake, and he has since demolished the building.

The second fire broke out at a second home owned by drake at 5842 Bennoch Road. That call came in Tuesday night at about 10:20.

That home was badly damaged by fire and an attached barn was completely leveled.

Investigators say neither building was insured.

According to the Penobscot County Registry of Deeds website, Drake has liens totalling several thousand dollars for failure to pay taxes on several properties in Lagrange but according to town officials there were no tax liens on either of the fire damaged properties.
