BANGOR (NEWS CENTER) -- Acadia Hospital in Bangor will be opening a $1.2 million dollar pediatric outpatient center this summer.

The center will provide a separate location for children to get treatment for emotional and psychiatric problems. Hospital officials hope the new center will provide n engaging environment for patients to receive a variety of services like music and art therapy.

It will also give them a space to continue their schooling while getting treatment. They say providing a place to get these services is important to many families who live in rural areas.

"The psychiatric pediatric service that we offer here is pretty unique for northern Maine. It's a holistic, inclusive service that really ranges from all different types of emotional, mental health needs," said David Proffitt, CEO of Acadia Hospital.

Hospital officials hope the new facility will allow them to reach patients who might not have looked into these services before.
