ABBOTT (NEWS CENTER) -- Several businesses in Piscataquis County are hoping to find out who broke into their stores. Investigators with the Sheriff's Department say there have been several burglaries since early winter. The most recent happened at Trafton's Family Affair in Abbott. On Monday night the thieves used a ladder to climb to the second story of the building and break the window. Once they entered the store they stole beer, cigarettes, and liquor. There were also burglaries at T&L's Country Store in Sangerville, Countryside Meats in Dover-Foxcroft, and Herring Bros. Meat Market in Guilford. Trafton's Family Affair owner Barbara Trafton hates to think that anyone in the community would do this to her store. "It just angers me very very much to think that for twenty-three years we've run this store trying to give good service to the public, and people can just come in and destroy everything" Trafton said. Sergeant Michael Gould with the Piscataquis County Sheriff's Department says businesses should make sure all windows and doors are secure and to never leave money in the store overnight. Anyone with information on any of these crimes is asked to call the Sheriff's Department at 564-3304.
