PITTSFIELD (NEWS CENTER)--The town of Pittsfield should start to see smaller electric bills now that the new wind turbine at the town transfer station is online.

Thursday town officials joined with members of the state's Efficiency Maine Program to celebrate a move toward green power.

The 10 killowatt wind turbine is expected to eliminate 6 tons of greenhouse gas emissions and save the town 15 hundred dollars a year.

Don Chute, the recycling and tranfer station coordinator, says "summer months your looking at 2-300 hundred dollars a month and winter time it could be as high 7 or 800 dollars a month so it'll be interesting to see on our first power bill we'll see some recognition there i'm sure."

Pittsfield received a 50 thousand dollar grant from Efficiency Maine to install the turbine. Efficiency Maine is encouraging other towns and non-profits to apply for grants through its renewable resource fund.
