NORTHFIELD (NEWS CENTER) -- The Washington County Sheriff's Department is investigating a fatal tractor accident that happened in Northfield Thursday morning.

Invesigators say Johnathan Brock of Addison was killed when the tractor he was driving hit the side of a bridge over the Machias River, near Holmes Falls.

Deputies say Brock was travelling south on Bear Brook Road when he lost control of the John Deere farm tractor. The 21-year-old was pinned when the tractor rolled over, and he died at the scene.

Investigators say he was working for Cherryfield Foods at the time of the accident.

Sheriff Donnie Smith says while speed was likely a factor in the crash, the incident remains under investigation.

The sheriff's department was assisted on-scene by the Maine Marine Patrol, the Maine Warden Service, Maine State Police and several local fire departments and ambulance crews.
