MAPLETON (AP) -- A Maine hunter has been hit with bird shot while pheasant hunting, the third incident in which a hunter was struck since Oct. 1.

The Maine Warden Service says a Mapleton man in his 20s was hit by bird shot while hunting with a friend on Saturday in Arroostook County. The man was hit in his lower leg and foot and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Officials are investigating.

The warden service says on Thursday, a Virginia man was hit in the cheek while hunting with a friend in Long Pond Township. And on Oct. 1, a pheasant hunter was hit by bird shot in the chest area while hunting on Chebeague Island. Both men were treated and released from hospitals.
