CHERRYFIELD (NEWS CENTER) -- When people in Cherryfield voted this year to keep their local elementary school open, it came at a cost of more than $400,000.

The town was ordered to pay the school district that amount, and in turn, Cherryfield had to increase its property taxes.

But now Cherryfield has received an anonymous donation of $200,000 to help offset those costs. It came through the Boston Foundation.

Cherryfield's decision to keep the school open has pleased the families of more than eighty children who attend it.

The school is working together with Columbia Falls to try and develop a more cost efficient future for the school district.

The Boston Foundation has not released the identity of the anonymous donor.
