BANGOR (NEWS CENTER)--A national bookstore is working with Literacy Volunteers of Bangor to get more kids reading.
This year Borders and Literacy Volunteers of Bangor teamed up and formed a program call books 'Books Beyond Borders'. It asks customers to donate a childrens book. For the months of August and September the books were collected and Literacy Volunteers of Bangor gave out more than 1,300 books to just over 130 kids in our community. Jennifer Montgomery -Rice from Literacy Volunteers of Bangor says "Espcially in these hard economic times sometimes things like books have to wait and libraries are wonderful but there is nothing like having a those books right there and having them being readed many many times over." Literacy Volunteers of Bangor has been working in the Bangor area for 40 years. The group helps provide volunteer tutors with people who would like to improve their reading skills.
