BANGOR (NEWS CENTER) -- Perley Goodrich, Jr. of Newport appeared in Penobscot County Superior Court Friday to hear charges of murder and aggravated assault.

Goodrich was arrested at an Irving Gas Station restaurant in Newport early this morning after a waitress recognized him and called police.

According to court documents, Goodrich Jr.'s mother, Sandra, told police her son came home Monday night to the house he shared with his parents. She said he dragged her out of her bedroom and punched and pistol whipped her on the head. She told police he then went back into her bedroom, where she heard a gunshot and her husband, Perley Goodrich, Sr., yell, "He shot me!" Sandra Goodrich fled the home to a neighbor's house.

Perley Goodrich, Jr. is being held without bail at the Penobscot County Jail.
