WASHINGTON COUNTY (NEWS CENTER)--A deputy with the Washington County Sheriff's office was hurt Thursday in an accident in the town of Charlotte.

The chief tells us that officer Tom Chambers was traveling on Route 214 about six o'clock when he swerved to avoid a moose in the road. His cruiser veered off the road, hit a stump and rolled over.

Officer Chambers was trapped in his vehicle about an hour before he was pulled out.

He was taken to a hospital in Calais to be examined and is now on his way to Eastern Maine Med in Bangor.

His injuries are not considered life threatening.
