
ORONO (NEWS CENTER) -- The University of Maine honored the memory of a long time professor Saturday.
Edward "Sandy" Ives worked at the University of Maine for 44 years. As a professor of anthropology, Ives is most remembered for his work with folklore. Ives founded U-Maine's "Archives of Folklore and Oral History." It contains roughly 4000 tapes and transcripts of maritime folklore from Maine and parts of Canada.
Ives also started the journal, "Northeast Folklore," which is now in its 43rd volume.
He died in August after a long illness. Sandy Ives was 83 years old.
