AUGUSTA (NEWS CENTER) -- Maine Veterans were honored Wednesday along a 21 mile route from Augusta to Winslow.

Veterans, current soldiers , friends and even some boy scouts made the long march up the Kennebec River Valley.

It's the eighth year the Veterans Day march has been held.
This one was organized by the sheriff's department, and led by Sheriff Randy Liberty, who is an Iraq war veteran.

Liberty and the other marchers say it does take some effort, but it's a fitting way to honor those who are serving now and everyone who served before.

The march ended at the Winslow Veterans Memorial, where the marchers were joined by a few other veterans who couldn't make the long hike, but wanted to be part of the ceremony. Among them, Erlan Clement, who spent more than three years in the Pacific during World War II.
