BREWER (NEWS CENTER) -- Governor Baldacci toured Eastern Manufacturing facility as part of a statewide tour with officials from a Norwegian Company that specializes in offshore wind projects.

Representatives from Statoil Hydro took a tour of Cianbro's Eastern Manufacturing Facility in Brewer. Statoil Hydro is a major leader in offshore wind energy and has established a deep sea turbine.

Cianbro is hoping to be a partner in any project that develops offshore wind power along Maine's cost. Governor Baldacci expressed his optimism about the potential opportunities offshore wind would create for Maine workers.

"When Maine prospered, it had cheap hydroelectric power next to plants and factories and thousand of jobs," he said, "we have an opportunity to create that future for our kids and grandkids and I'm excited about it because we can really do it in our state and our state is in the middle of everything."

There are four sites off the coast of Maine which have been identified as potential areas for offshore wind projects.
