PERRY, Maine (AP) -- The Maine medical examiner's office said an eastern Maine man who went missing while clam digging last week died by accidentally drowning.

The body of 51-year-old Arthur Calder Jr. was found Monday afternoon on the shore of East Cove in Perry.

Calder was reported missing Sunday, but he is thought to have drowned earlier last week. There was a delay between when he died and when he was reported missing because he lived alone.

His body was found nearly two miles away from where his clam-digging gear was found on shore.
