Maine Airports Affected By FAA Glitch

PORTLAND (NEWS CENTER) -- By early afternoon, about 1/3 of flights leaving the Portland Jetport were still delayed due to an FAA computer glitch Thursday morning.

The failure was in a computer located at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Aiport that allows pilots to file their flight plans with the FAA.

The system, the National Airspace Data Interchange Network, or Nadin, appears to be the same one that failed in August 2008.

Since a number of Portland's flights fly into major hubs, many experienced delays.  Jetport officials say they dodged a bullet with the glitch, which came after their peak morning hours.  They also say this is a slow week for them, just before the busy holiday rush.

Bangor International Airport also saw the delays in their flight schedule Thursday.  For an update on both airports, their Websites are posted to the right.
