PORTLAND (NEWS CENTER)-- Court papers released are shedding new light on the murder case against a man accused of killing his girlfriend.

William Hanaman is accused of stabbing Marion Shea.

According to the Portland Police affidavit, Shea died from multiple stab wounds including wounds that they say appeared to be defensive.

It states that police were called to Hanaman's Ocean Avenue apartment last week by his sister, who was concerned about Hanaman's well being.

It says, once police got inside the apartment they discovered Shea's body on the floor covered by a blanket.

Police say Hanaman was barely conscious and unresponsive, lying next to her.

The court documents say there were loose prescription pills and bottle on the floor, and there was an apparent suicide note on the kitchen counter.

Hanaman was sent to the Riverview Psychiatric Hospital in Augusta after he was arraigned earlier this week.

His attorney says he is suicidal.
