LEWISTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Katherine Perreault spoke with reporters for the first time Tuesday morning about her daughter's 48 hour ordeal trapped inside a wrecked SUV.

Kourtney Thibeault says she was driving home from a college course last Tuesday night when she swerved to avoid hitting a deer.  Her SUV left Route 196 and traveled 40 feet into a ravine where she remained trapped for 48 hours.

After an extensive search in several towns police located Thibeault.

She is recovering from a broken leg and jaw at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

Kourtney told her Mother that she woke up and fell back asleep several times while trapped in the SUV.  She used a flashlight at night and found a bottle of soda but fell asleep and emptied the bottle accidentally before she could drink it.

The community is holding a benefit dinner on December 12 from
4:00pm - 7:00pm at the Topsham Fair Exhibition Hall.
