ORRINGTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- A woman from Orrington is doing something a little different this holiday giving season.

Heather Bendure and her family are collecting items and donations for the homeless. They are collecting clean mittens, hats, scarfs, boots, coats and blankets. The idea came about when bendure made pies for a church function, but she had the wrong date so she brought them to the homeless shelter. After that visit she decided to do something a little different for the holidays.  She says." Most people already buy a toy. They do the angel tree or there is a lot of organizations and people donate toys. I felt like the homeless people weren't being thought of this time of year. And they also have children and everyone is affected by it. "

They will be collecting until December 21st when she will drop the items off at Bangor Homeless Shelter. You can reach the Bendure family by calling 825-3933.
