SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The kids at the Westcott Middle School in South Portland say they're really happy with their back-pack drive so far. They're collecting them for refugee children. At the end of November, a representative from Refugee and Immigration services spoke with students from Project Reach. The children were moved by the presentation -- so moved, in fact, they decided to help out refugee children their age. After some brainstorming with teacher Ellen Benson, the kids decided to collect school supplies through a backpack drive. Their second goal was 100 backpacks. In the end they collected 135.
