POLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A Sunday afternoon fire in Poland destroyed a home belonging to a family of five.
The fire on North Raymond Road was reported just before 1pm Sunday.
Poland's Fire Chief says when crews arrived it was unknown if anyone was inside the house.
They later learned the 3 adults and 2 children who live in the home were not inside when the fire started.
The fire appears to have started in the basement, burning through the floor which made the scene a challenging one for the fire department.
The family lost a dog and cat in the flames.
The American Red Cross is aiding the family with housing Sunday night.
