BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- People from across the state got to take advantage of some free tax assistance Saturday.

The United Way, Key Bank and a number of other organizations teamed up to provide free tax preparation services to people at ten locations in Maine. One tax clinic was set up for service at the Airport Mall in Bangor. Similar ones were also up and running in Brunswick, Calais, Ellsworth, Farmington, Lewiston, Machias, Sanford, Portland and Waterville.

Open to people with low and moderate incomes, they were set up to help those who might qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit. This year the E.I.T.C. is available to people who live in households that have up to three or more qualifying children and can go as high as $5,657.

The Eastern Maine Cash Coalition was one group that also provided free money management advice at its two tax clinics in Bangor and Ellsworth.

Volunteers say when it comes to "what you should do" with your tax refund, saving it is always a good idea. They also recommend seeking professional advice should you decide to invest your money.

If you happened to miss any of today's sessions, cash coalitions across the state will continue offering free tax preparation services in the coming weeks. To find one near you, simply pick up your phone and call 2-1-1.
