SABATTUS, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- This week parents and taxpayers in RSU 4 are hearing about a restructuring plan to save money.

The towns of Litchfield, Sabattus and Wales make up RSU 4.  Each town has its own Kindergarten through 8th grade school.  Next year, however, that all changes.

To save money all 6th, 7th and 8th grade students will attend Sabattus Central School.  Students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade will attend the Carrie Ricker School in Litchfield and the younger grades will stay where they are currently.

Next year one school in the union will close.

RSU 4 was facing a $600,000 budget cut in State funding.  The restructuring, including cutting more than 15 jobs made up for the difference.  Now the superintendent has learned the budget gap is closer to $1 million.  More cuts will be made to make up the additional $400,000.

Public meetings are set for this week for the public to learn about the changes.

Monday February 8th at 6:30 at Wales Central School.

Tuesday February 9th at 6:30 in Litchfield at the Carrie Ricker School.

Thursday February 11th at 6:30 at Sabattus Central School.
