PORTLAND (NEWS CENTER) - If you use public transit in the Greater Portland area, you may want to pay attention to some meeting that METRO is holding.

The Transit District is sorting out ways to balance its operating budget while minimizing the effects on riders.  They will be talking about raising fares to compensate for the budget disparity.

There will be a meeting tonight (02/09) in Westbrook at 6:00 PM at the Westbrook Public Safety building.  There will be a meeting at 6:00 PM on Wednesday (02/10) in Falmouth at the Central Fire Station on Bucknam Road.  And on Thursday (02/11), the City of Portland will hold its meeting at Portland City Hall.

The fares would go into effect in April of 2011.
