KITTERY, Maine (AP) -- More jobs are coming to the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Spokeswoman Danna Eddy tells The Portsmouth Herald the Kittery, Maine facility will add 250 employees by the end of September. Eddy says most of the jobs are in the trades, but the shipyard will also be looking for engineers, engineering technicians and administrative workers. The president of the Metal Trades Council, Paul O'Connor, says about 200 workers are leaving this year through attrition. But counting the new hires, and 110 apprentices who began training this month, O'Connor says there will be a net gain of about 160 jobs. The officers of the Seacoast Shipyard Association are scheduled Friday to present their annual shipyard economic impact report at the Greater Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce.
