BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --- The state is seeing its fair share of warm weather but already some Mainers are making improvements to keep cold air out of their homes next winter.
Workers from Penobscot Home Performance were busy doing an 'energy audit' at a home off Hammond Street in Bangor Friday morning.
Efficiency Maine is currently providing incentives to homeowners who have an audit done and make energy improvements to their home before the end of the summer. Those who weatherize their homes are eligible for a federal tax credit of up to $1,500 for next year, and they can also get a rebate of up to $4,000 back from Efficiency Maine for any improvements they make.
"It's based on two things: how much the project costs and how much energy the project saves," said Andy Meyer, who is the program director for Efficiency Maine, "so the more energy the homeowner is willing to invest in saving, the more they spend...the bigger the incentive."
Those looking to qualify need to have their energy audit and improvements done by one of Efficiency Maine's 70 participating contractors by August 31, 2010.
