AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - The Division of Licensing and Regulatory Services in the Department of Health and Human Services will begin reviewing applications for licenses to dispense medicinal marijuana.
Under Maine's Medical Use of Marijuana Act, passed by voters in November, the state authorized the creation of eight dispensaries. Each dispensary would service one of the state's eight public health districts.
A panel will review each application and score it in various areas outlined in the Open Application Instructions for Dispensaries. Applications must address a variety of topics including:
- Long-term plans to operate as a non-profit
- Convenience of Location
- Prior business experience
- Patient education
- Record-keeping
- Inventory
- Quality Control
- Security
- Staffing
DHHS expects to award dispensaries on July 9.
