Turns out "unsettled" is a bad prefix for almost anything. Think about it: unsettled business, an unsettled stomach, unsettling dreams. I can't come up with a single case in which the word is used to describe something positive. (If you can think of one please email me, because I was racking my brain...or is it wracking? Google could not provide me a clear answer on that one.)
Weather is no exception to this rule and we've had "unsettled" conditions across the state since Easter Sunday. Certainly there have been nice periods with sunshine, but showers always lurked nearby and developed quickly. The good news is today will be the last day to feature pop up shower activity as a cut off low finally pushes to the northeast.
Showers will be most likely along the coastline today as the moisture field associated with a low pressure system slowly pushes east, out to sea. The exact timing and location of the showers will be difficult to predict once again, but it does look like a flare up is likely during the early afternoon as the sun destabilizes the atmosphere. Speaking of sun, we will actually see a decent amount of it today, particularly across the interior and mountains. Temperatures will respond nicely, rising into the mid and upper 50s by the afternoon.
After an early shower tonight look for rapidly clearing skies as the cut off low spins out to sea and drier air moves in from the west. Temperatures could drop pretty quickly after midnight, so lows will be in the 30-35 F range.
Friday will be the first totally dry day in about a week as high pressure builds into control. Look for mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 50s to near 60.
Saturday will be similar with lots of sunshine, but this time around temperatures should build to 60-65 F by the afternoon.
Showers return to the forecast for Sunday, but the pattern will remain progressive in the long range. What I mean by that is we won't get stuck with a cut off low spinning overhead for a week again...the atmosphere has cleared out the log jam that caused that situation.
