BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- Jason Trickett appeared before a judge just a few hours after police arrested him on a city bus, and less than a day after police emailed his mug shot out to several media outlets.

"The Bangor Police Department got a call that Mr. Trickett was on one of the city buses down in Pickering Square. Our officers went down there. They were able to locate Mr. Trickett on the bus and he was taken into custody without incident," Bangor Police Department Detective Sgt. Paul Kenison said.

In the early morning hours on May 22, a fight broke out outside of 71 First Street. When it was over Andy Smith lay on the ground with a stab wound that would take his life.

Trickett is now charged with manslaughter in Smith's death.

According to court documents, Trickett confessed to police.

Detective Tim Cotton is quoted as saying;

"Once in the car Trickett stated that he may have stabbed Andy Smith."

Trickett also allegedly told a friend at the Bangor Homeless Shelter that he stabbed Smith, saying:

"It happened so fast and that he had flashbacks to when he was a child and his mother was being physically abused."

Trickett was not required to enter a plea. His bail was set at $50,000 dollars.

His next scheduled court appearance is scheduled for August 9.
