AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Maine Gov. Paul LePage has ordered U.S. and state flags lowered to half-staff in Caribou in honor of a local soldier who died in a motorcycle accident in North Carolina.
Flags have been ordered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Wednesday in honor of Army Sgt. 1st Class Daniel Alward.
Alward, 31, died as a result of a motorcycle accident on June 9 in Fayetteville, N.C.
He was assigned to Company B, 3rd Battalion 1st Special Weapons Training Group, Fort Bragg, N.C.
He graduated from Caribou High School in 1999.
During his time in the Army he was deployed to Qatar and Iraq.
Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday at Mockler Funeral Home in Caribou followed by burial at Woodland Cemetery.
