NAPLES, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Police say a car accident in Naples Friday night has left one person dead and another in serious condition.
The accident happened on the Harrison Road in Naples at 11:05 p.m. Friday.
Police say the car failed to negotiate a turn and struck a tree at a high rate of speed.
Authorities say 17-year-old Joshua Bonnell from Haverhill, Mass. was the driver and was not wearing a seatbelt. He was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene.
The passenger, who was wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected from the car and removed using the "Jaws of Life." He's been identified as 15-year-old Austin Bonnell, also from Haverhill, Mass.
He was taken by LifeFlight to Central Maine Medical Center, and is being treated for two broken legs and a concussion.
At this point, the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department has ruled that speed was a factor, but alcohol was not. The accident remains under investigation.
