WATERVILLE, Maine (AP) - The president of Colby College plans to retire next year.

William D. Adams announced Wednesday he will retire in June 2014.

Adams has led the school since 2000. Under his tenure, Colby's academic program has grown, particularly in environmental studies and visual arts, and the Goldfarb Center for Public Affairs and Civic Engagement was founded and a new center for the arts and humanities opened.

Before joining Colby, Adams served as president of Bucknell University for five years.
