BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- Schools all over the U.S. are not just handing out grades, they are also being graded. The U.S. News and World Report, an independent publication known for ranking schools, recently released its list of the Top public high schools in the U.S. The report evaluated over 21,000 across the country and ranked them based on state proficiency standards and how well they prepare students for college.
The school that placed number one in the state is the Maine School of Science and Mathematics in Limestone. Not only did the school get top marks in Maine, it was also ranked #13 best public high school in the nation.
Luke Shorty, Executive Director of the school, says this achievement reflects the capacity of students from all throughout Maine.
"In some aspects, MSSM being ranked as 13th in the nation is a way of acknowledging all the good work that's happening in schools all over the state," said Shorty. "These students that come to MSSM were prepared at schools all over the state of Maine, and they were prepared so well that they were able to handle MSSM's advanced curriculum."
Another school in our area that made the list is Bangor High School.
