ORONO, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - An appeal in the case of a transgender girl in Orono is getting the support of the Maine Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
The student, known by the pseudonym Susan Doe, was denied the use of the girls' bathroom at the Asa Adams school after being bullied.
She had been allowed to use it prior to the bullying.
Her parents filed a lawsuit against the school, based on a law prohibiting discrimination based on gender identity.
In November a judge ruled against the parents, saying the school acted properly.
The case has been appealed and now the doctors group has filed a friend of the court brief with the Maine Supreme Court supporting the girl's side.
