LEWISTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- In the wake of three devastating fires in Lewiston in the past two weeks, the community has resolved to show strength and support.
179 people lost their homes as eleven apartment buildings burned on Bartlett, Bates, Pierce and Horton Streets.
Some of those buildings were vacant, but people living in those buildings lost just about everything, and the city estimates the cost of staffing fire and rescue crews and cleaning up the damage will cost $360,000.
The first show of community support will be Monday night in Kennedy Park. Neighbors will gather from 5:30 to 6:30pm for an interfaith prayer session and a moment of appreciation for first responders.
Then on Thursday organizers have put together a "3 Fires 5K" -- an informal walk/run at Farwell Elementary School. It starts at 6pm and organizers are asking for a five dollar minimum donation.
